One of the main reasons why I love essential oils so much is because they help our bodies function in a healthy way. They are the “life force” of plants and contain many ingredients that strengthen the general wellness and health.
With a healthy lifestyle (the essential lifestyle) you are on the offensive, you stay healthy and strong right from the start, instead of staying on the defensive and trying to get well all the time.
Here I share the 5 possibly most important ways you can strengthen your immune system.
But before we turn to the essential oils that will help you find your way to more wellness, let’s take a quick look at the simple lifestyle choices you can make to get into your immune system.
- What do you eat?
Everything you put in your body either promotes or prevents your health. So take a closer look at what you eat. Many of them may contain artificial chemicals or GMO’s. The more toxins and chemicals you add to your body, the more your immune system has to fight against them and will become weaker and weaker over time. All of your body systems will become weaker and weaker.
There are several ways in which you can strengthen your immune system through your diet:
Eat as much pesticide free (organic, Demeter, …) as possible,
Think in fruits, vegetables, fresh food,
Take a closer look at the ingredients,
Remove as much sugar from your diet as possible.
2. How’s your bowel?
“‘All diseases begin in the intestines” – Hippocrates. It is easy to overlook the health of the gastrointestinal tract, even though there are more than 10 times more health-related bacteria in the intestine than anywhere else. They protect us from infections, support our metabolism and promote healthy digestion and excretion.
Your digestive system could use a little more support, believe me. All our digestive systems could use a little more support, especially in times when a strong immune system is important. Because of all the toxins we are all exposed to every day, our intestines have a hard time developing their full potential and working at their full power.
The majority of people in modern civilization have insufficiently good bacteria, an abundance of debilitating bacteria and too little diversity.
This can have different reasons:
- Unfavorable diet,
- Drugs,
- Chronic stress,
- Environmental pollutants
- Sleep deficit
- usw.
How can you additionally build and strengthen your intestine?
Supply your intestines with probiotics daily. I love Young Living’s Life 9 (builds up the good bacteria in the gut).
Support yourself with enzymes. I love Young Living’s Detoxymes, Essentialzymes, and Essentialzyme-4 (helps you digest food and better absorb nutrients).
Strengthen your body with vitamins that are highly bioavailable (I love Young Living’s NingXia Red Juice for this).
For children, there are MightyVites, MightyZymes, and MightyPro (probiotics).
3. Sleep is one of the most important building blocks for a healthy body and mind
Getting enough sleep every night helps the body systems to rest, recover and regenerate to be able to function properly again. Without sufficient sleep, the body systems become tired and exhausted. It is impossible for the immune system to function at full strength without sufficient sleep.
Would you like to sleep better? Essential oils can help you very effectively. One of my favorite treatments is to put a drop of incense on the back of my neck, rub incense on my hair and feet, and put Peace & Calming in the diffuser. The essential oil of cedar also supports deep, restful sleep, as it helps the body to produce melatonin naturally. These essential oils help you to sleep relaxed and deeply: 7 essential oils for deep sleep
If you need extra support, I can highly recommend the Sleep Essence and the Immupro – these are specifically designed to strengthen both your healthy sleep and your healthy immune system.
4. Reduce the pollutants in your environment
If your immune system has to constantly fight off toxins, it may not be able to function at full strength. Everything from the body lotions you put on your body to the detergents you use to wash your clothes may be full of toxins.
Here are some of the ingredients that you better leave out in the future:
- Sodium Laurel Sulphates
- Propylene Glycol
- Phthalates
- Parabens
- DEA/TEA/MEA
- Tricolosan (hand disinfection products)
- Artificial colours and pigments
- Artificial fragrances
- Spray-on sun protection
- Benzone
- Air freshener (formaldehydes)
All these things – nutrition, healthy intestines, sleep and toxins are important building blocks for good health.
5. Wellness for body, mind and soul
Essential oils are the missing link that completes the wellness in your life. They are fragrant strengthening, harmonizing and wellness for your whole life.
1. Thieves
Sure – Thieves?! Thieves almost explains himself. You get Thieves with your starter kit, Thieves is one of those oils that belong in every household. You can diffuse it 24/7, there are Thieves for internal use, you can rub it on your feet…
Thieves is a mixture of lemon, clove, cinnamon bark, rosemary and eucalyptus. A particularly beneficial application with Thieves is to move up and down along the spine with the Thieves RollOn.
2. Oregano
Oregano is not only super strengthening, but also conveys a feeling of security and self-confidence (hello emotions!).
Oregano is a very hot essential oil, so it can burn if you apply it undiluted to your skin. Essential oils are diluted with a vegetable oil like olive or coconut oil. Water would increase the burning sensation. So watch out!
You can also use Oregano+ in your aroma kitchen. This is one of my personal favourite applications!
Young Living also has a dietary supplement, InnerDefense, and oregano is one of the main oils, among other things.
3. Rosemary
Rosemary has a very high proportion of the 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol). I’ll leave you to do your own research on what they can do. According to an old legend, rosemary originally had white flowers. However, they turned red after Mother Mary put her robe over a rosemary bush. Since the time of the ancient Greeks (1,000 B.C.), rosemary has been used in smoking to clean rooms.
Rosemary not only strengthens you, but also helps to clear your thoughts, supports your focus and brings a breath of fresh air into your thoughts.
4. Cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg
Cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg are a power trio. Another power trio is incense, lemon and caraway.
And not to forget – move! Make sure that your lungs move well every day. Breathing exercises, movements that slightly increase your breathing, bouncing… this helps to prevent pathogens that might have entered your lungs from settling there and multiplying.
Stay strong, healthy and joyful!
